Business When you hear or see the name Donald Trump, you immediately think of luxury real estate. Richard Branson probably brings to mind adventure and innovation. Oprah is so famous; she doesnt even need a last name to remind you of her massive media empire. These names are all instantly recognizable. And because of this, so are the businesses they are linked to. So what do people think of when they hear your name? If your answer to that question is, I dont know, you have a problem that needs to be solved. You may have heard the expression before people buy people. What that means is that whatever theyre looking for, consumers are much more likely to want to do business with someone who they feel like they know. Given the choice between a .pany or provider they feel familiar with and a .plete stranger, a customer will pick the one that seems familiar every time. For someone trying to be.e a business owner, this whole idea of known can be a bit daunting. After all, you know how to do what you do. You know how to provide a service or product to your customers. But you arent Donald Trump or Richard Branson or Oprah. You arent a household name. The good news is, you dont need to be world famous to attract clients. But if you want to be.e a household name in your business the person your potential clients are most likely to call when they need what you do done you need to give those potential clients something to hang on to. Something that will instantly tell them who you are and what you are all about. Something that will make them feel that they know you so they want to hire you. That something is personal branding. Personal branding is simply the process of figuring out exactly who you are and what makes you special in your field and constantly and consistently identifying yourself with that thing. So that your clients and potential clients will learn to associate you with your brand, and your brand with the product or service you provide. It starts with asking simple questions to help you determine what makes you special. Who are you? What do you do? What are you all about? What makes you different than all the other people who do what you do? Figure out the answers to those questions, and youll be on your way to developing your own personal brand. Of course, personal branding isnt easy for everyone. Sometimes it helps to have an outside expert guide you through the process of figuring out exactly what it is that differentiates you from your .petition, and how to put that into words.
